The International Thespian Society is the only organization to honor secondary school students for outstanding work in theatre. There are at present active ITS troupes in more than 3,900 high schools and middle schools, mostly in the United States and Canada. The Society recently inducted its two millionth Thespian since its founding in 1929. Trinitas Arts Conservatory participates in the International Thespian Society through its Troupe #4566.

Membership gives students incentives to participate in theatre activities and can be an important factor in gaining admission to a quality drama program at the university level. For those who are not planning a career in theatre, the Society's offerings can increase enjoyment of the art now and later, when the student becomes the adult theatre audience. Thespian membership is granted for the performance or meritorious work in theatre arts, which meets the Society's general guidelines. Specifically, students become members by earning points for their work. Thespians who achieve enough points receive graduation honors at their school, and are eligible for varsity jackets from Trinitas Arts Conservatory. You can find out more about the International Thespian Society at schooltheatre.org.

In order to remain a thespian in good standing, one must:

  • Accumulate 3 or more thespian points per year

  • Participate in 2 or more service projects per year

  • Participate in ALL Thespian Meetings

  • You are allowed 2 EXCUSED (must email the Board Presidents and Mr. Betts) absences and 1 UNEXCUSED absence. Excused absences include school athletics or academic commitments, illness, family emergencies, or other circumstances that are discussed in advance. These are always reviewed in good faith to support students while maintaining program standards, and this clarification is also added to the updated handbook.

As a thespian in good standing, you get special privileges:

  1. First 10 audition slots are reserved for thespians

  2. Thespians in good standing are eligible for Thespian Awards

  3. Thespians in good standing are eligible to attend State and International Thespian Festivals

  4. Recognition in TAC programs

  5. Eligible for Honor Cords and Letterman Jackets when requirements are met

If found not in good standing, you will become inactive. An inactive thespian can be reactivated by attending a meeting, paying a $15 fee, and completing 3 service hours (currently shop hours, must sign up with Nicole, hours must be completed BEFORE reinstatement).

Thespian dues, currently $110 per year, are charged annually from induction until senior year, regardless of thespian status.
